OPERATIONS

Eric Wichmann moved from Michigan to Florida in 2006 at the age of 19 to pursue a career in the fire service. After completing EMT school in Michigan and gaining ride time with local fire departments, he quickly realized that the fire service was his calling.

He chose Southwest Florida for its climate, beaches, and rapidly growing communities, and joined the Cape Coral Fire Department in 2007. He promoted to Division Chief in 2025, previously serving as Firefighter, Engineer/Driver, Lieutenant, and Battalion Chief. He was also a member of the Hazardous Materials, Marine, and Dive Teams.

 

Chief Wichmann has two associate degrees from Florida SouthWestern State College and a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Barry University. He is a Paramedic and holds certifications as a Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor III, and Fire Inspector.

The Division Chief of Operations supervises nine Battalion Chiefs who operate over three shifts and 13 fire stations and is responsible for the response, safety, efficiency, and overall operations of the Department. Chief Wichmann remains committed to operational excellence, leadership development, and serving the community with integrity and professionalism.
